Munigou Valley is located in Songpan County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is more than 300 kilometers away from Chengdu. The valley covers an area of 160 square kilometers. Its highest elevation reaches 4070 meters. It has charming natural scenery, rich ethnic customs and primitive forests. Munigou Valley mainly contains primitive forests, high mountain lakes, hot springs, giant travertine waterfalls, circular waterfalls and travertine pools. The scenic spots consist of Zhaga Waterfall and Erdaohai Scenic Area. The dense primeval forest, numerous wild animals and precious wild plants constitute the abundant natural resources of Munigou Valley. Travelers could see the wild giant panda and golden monkey here is you are lucky enough.
Zhaga Waterfall
Zhaga Waterfall enjoys the reputation as the No.1 travertine waterfall in China, with a height of 104 meters and a width of 35 meters. Mist floating lightly in the wind pervades the whole valley and in summer rainbows shines over the watefalls. In winter, the crystal-clear ice curtains are glittering and magnificent. The upstream of the waterfall is a lake while the downstream becomes a series of stepped riverbeds. The scenic spot is 5 kilometers long. It is a natural maze with infinite interest.
Erdaohai Scenic Area
Located in the heart of Munigou Valley, Erdaohai is the largest lake in the scenic area. The color of water changes gradually from light blue to black blue as the depth increases. The lake is calm and serene with a magnificent atmosphere. The undercurrent moves at the bottom of the lake.
The Mounigou scenery is in no way inferior to Jiuzhaigou Valley. It is quieter than Jiuzhaigou, especially in winter. Munigou has magnificent natural scenery with a strong religious and cultural atmosphere. It is also a holy place for the Tibetan Buddhism in a degree where many Buddhists would come for a visit.
