This summer, China’s railway traffic volume has reached a new peak. According to the Ministry of Railways, there were 238 million passengers traveling by train from July 1st to Aug 10th, which means an increase of 27.12 million over the previous year.

According to statistics, China’s railway traffic carried 5.67 million passengers during the first 10 days of August, up 10.8 percent year-on-year. The ministry expects another travel peak later this summer, driven by increasing numbers of vacationers and students returning from summer trips. Meanwhile, the ministry has vowed to improve the management of its train schedules and avoid delays caused by bad weather and construction.

From Aug 16th, China’s Ministry of Railway will cut the number of high-speed trains running between Beijing and Shanghai from 88 pairs per day to 66 pairs. In addition, the ministry has ordered its high-speed trains to run at slower speeds for safety reasons.
