China will lift the quarantine requirement for international arrivals starting 8 January, 2023, the country's National Health Commission(NHC) said in a statement on 26 December.

NHC said passengers traveling to China need to take nucleic acid test within 48 hours before boarding their flights to China, adding that nucleic acid screenings and centralized isolation after arrival will be canceled.

There is no need for travelers to apply for a health code from Chinese diplomatic and consular missions. According to the statement, they will declare their health status on the customs card.

Those with an abnormal health status declaration or fever symptoms will receive an antigen test at customs. They will be advised to self-isolate at home until they recover or be treated in hospital, depending on their health conditions, it said.

The statement also said that visa arrangements for foreigners to enter the country for work, business, study, family reunions or other social events will be improved.
