Construction of Wutai Mountain Airport Starts

According to the municipal government of Xinzhou in Shanxi province, construction of Wutai Mountain Airport has started which will facilitate tourists and Buddhists visiting one of China's most important Buddhist Mountains.
 

Wutai Mountain is one of the Four Sacred Mountains in Chinese Buddhism. In 2009, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.


Construction of the airport will finish in December 2012, said Zhang Zhongyuan, general office director of the airport construction headquarters.


With a total investment of CNY600 million, the airport is built based on a military airport and is located in Dingxiang county, 33 kilometers northeast of Xinzhou city.


After completion, the airport will open routes to seven domestic cities: Shanghai, Kunming, Sanya, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Changsha and Urumqi.
